Here is what Sheffield’s new Lidl supermarket will look like

Last August property developers Morbaine Limited and Ackroyd & Abbott were granted outline permission for the new supermarket off Lane End in Chapeltown.

Almost 400 local residents had objected but councillors said it would redevelop a long-standing vacant brownfield site.

Lidl says it had been searching for a suitable site in Chapeltown for a decade and the new store will create around 35 jobs.

Since outline planning permission was secured, Morbaine says it has worked in partnership with Lidl to design a store that minimises any impact on neighbouring residents.

It will include specialist acoustic fencing and dense landscaped areas to create a natural buffer between the store and neighbours.

A new woodland area will be created at the rear which means the building will be more than 10 metres away from the boundary of any existing property on Thorncliffe View.

The proposal also includes direct pedestrian access off Thorncliffe Lane as well as a new pedestrian crossing on Lane End.

Eight detached houses will be part of the development on Thorncliffe View, which is part of a new separate detailed application.

Morbaine director Keith Nutter said: “When we launched our plans back in April 2019, we discussed the proposals with local people including those residents who live next to the site.

“Having listened to their concerns, we have spent significant time and resources planning the layout of the site which we believe delivers maximum environmental benefits and minimises any future impact on local residents.”
