The site of this former Rotherham pub could be made into six new homes

Developers want to use the Bridge Bar building, a red brick pub which is now out of use, in Swinton to create three, two-bedroomed apartments and another three with one bedroom.

Parking would be available in what is currently the pub yard and the building would have modifications to doors and other features to allow the reconfiguration as homes.

It is located near Swinton Bridge, which crosses the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation and the Dearne and Dove Canal, on the corner of Bridge Street and Dun Street.

A Sheffield firm has submitted the plans to Rotherham Council, with application details suggesting the location would be good for new homes because they would “help to create a sense of community in this area and support local businesses”.

In addition to parking space on site, the location is well served by public transport, documents state.

An additional building to the rear of the site would be demolished as part of the redevelopment and the site also benefits from easy access to open spaces, including a play area directly outside and a public garden on nearby Broomville Street.

A decision on whether to allow the application will be made later.
