Two Sheffield Council workers praised for police training success

Zaffa M’Bye and Allen Watt who work in the council’s community safety team successfully passed the level three crime prevention qualification last year via the Police Crime Prevention Academy.

It requires three days of classroom-based learning plus completion of preliminary work and submission of a portfolio of evidence within three months of finishing the classroom phase.

They were praised for their efforts in a recent meeting of the council’s safer and stronger communities scrutiny and policy development committee.

Mr M’Bye said: “It wasn’t an easy course, I will tell you. Because we are just wardens the other people who did it have got access to police computers so for us to pass that was a big achievement. It’s a big achievement for two non-police officers to pass that course so I’m proud of it.”

Mr Watt added: “As Zaff said, it wasn’t an easy course to do, it certainly got the two brain cells shuffling around a bit.”

Councillor Ben Curran, chair of the committee, said: “Congratulations. That’s a fantastic achievement and something I’m certainly proud of you for doing and I can see nods and claps from the rest of the committee so well done, you have done us all proud…Usually the things in life worth doing aren’t the easy ones so massively well done.”

The Academy is an established provider of training for police, public and private sector partners and communities.
