£150,000 stolen car raid by police

A MASSIVE £150,000 of suspected stolen vehicles and parts were seized in one day by Rotherham police during operation Maximum Impact on Crime.

Officers from the Auto Crime Unit followed a stolen Land Rover to a site at Kilnhurst and recovered property, numerous vehicles and parts.

Two men were arrested as a result of the seizure.

Another seven arrests were made on day 10 of the crime blitz, including two for criminal damage, one for burglary, one for failure to appear at court and one for breaching a football banning order.

Police also discovered a cannabis 'factory' at an address in Dinnington.

Kind-hearted police also teamed up with council contractors Rotherham 2010 to distribute 250 kettles to victims of the recent floods.

Police spokesman Adam Oxley said: "Police in Rotherham have recovered a sizeable amount of vehicles and parts as this summer's Impact campaign continues to hit criminals across the region. Two other people were arrested in East Dene for drug-related offences, with 5,000 seized in cash. In addition, a cannabis factory was discovered in Dinnington and a quantity of drugs recovered.

"A number of events also took place around the district in partnership with Rotherham Council, Streetpride and Environmental Services including street cleaning and litter pick-ups."

And in Wentworth, members of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Trading Standards were out consulting residents about cold callers.

Operation Maximum Impact on Crime is an eight-week operation throughout Yorkshire and Humberside where police target specific crimes each week, with drugs, violence, stolen goods, a wide range of car crime and other offences under the spotlight.
