Public will pay for price war

PASSENGERS may be enjoying the fruits of a price war between the county's two biggest bus operators, who are battling it out for customers on a range of lucrative Sheffield routes. But they need to engage their long-term memory before becoming too exuberant. For this kind of thing has happened before - and the public has eventually been left to pay the price.

The struggle is being fought between First and Stagecoach, who are the new kids on the bus block and come with plenty of financial muscle to help them undercut special offers presented by their more established rivals.

However, history shows that such price cuts tend to be flashes in the pan and lead, ultimately, to a less satisfactory overall public transport network, with services visiting more remote and less popular destinations in danger of suffering as a consequence.

CHERISE Bonnick could tell the city's rowdy neighbours a thing or two - and they would be well served to settle down for once and listen. For she is the latest victim of a city council clampdown on nuisance tenants who are making life a misery on our council estates.

She has been served with an injunction curtailing her outrageous behaviour which has even, scandalously, included encouraging visitors to behave just as inconsiderately as herself.

The injunction comes with a string of restrictions, including banning her from making excessive noise inside her Woodhouse home. Most importantly, she is now well aware that this is warning and brings closer the day she may be found homeless. So, it is clear she is ideally placed to tell rowdy neighbours to show respect and consideration.
