Pupils painting the town ...

PUPILS celebrated the end of their time at a Sheffield primary school with a leavers' prom.

The 11-year-old classmates from St John Fisher School in Hackenthorpe dressed up in smart casual clothing for their version of a prom, which is a traditional part of school celebrations in America.

The 33 youngsters enjoyed a variety of treats, included a ride in a limousine, non-alcoholic cocktails, a meal and a disco.

It was not only a special day for pupils. It was a momentous one for headteacher Liam McGurrin, who retired from the school after 25 years in charge.

Earlier staff, pupils and parents attended a Mass and at the end of the service the popular head was given a standing ovation.

The Roman Catholic school has been busy with celebrations as it approaches its 50th anniversary in May.
