Rental boost for tenants

FLOODING victims who had to flee their Doncaster homes for emergency rest centres or relatives' houses will not have to pay rent for the time they were evacuated.

The decision was taken following a review of how rent payments would be dealt with, given that many people will not be able to return to their homes for some time.

And people who have declined temporary accommodation and chosen to return to their homes but who are not able to use the downstairs areas while repairs are underway will have a 50 per cent reduction in rents charged.

Council tenants who have had to move into temporary accommodation will only be charged the rent on their main home, or the lower of the two rents.
