Rivelin Valley Road: Tragedy as cyclist loses fight for life over three weeks on from Sheffield crash

Witnesses are urged to come forward after a road traffic collision on a major Sheffield road that sadly led to the death of a cyclist.

Shortly after 6pm on Friday, September 29, 2023, police were called to reports of a collision in Rivelin Valley Road, in the Stannington area of Sheffield, involving a white Mazda 3 and a pedal cycle.

The cyclist, a 55-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A South Yorkshire Police (SYP) spokesperson this afternoon (Wednesday, October 25, 2023) confirmed the cyclist sadly died in hospital on Sunday October 22).

The SYP spokesperson continued: "The driver of the Mazda, a 31-year-old man, remained at the scene following the collision and has been assisting officers with their enquiries.

"The collision is reported to have happened between Hollins Lane and Hagg Hill, and we are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to get in touch with us.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage along the route of Rivelin Valley Road between the junctions of Manchester Road and Malin Bridge at the time of the collision to get in touch."
