Road smash 999 exercise

THREE people were killed and another 15 seriously injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up in Doncaster – in a mocked-up training exercise.

The county’s fire, ambulance and police services took part in the event on Tuesday night as part of their obligations under the Civil Contingencies Act to ensure they would know what to do in the case of a real-life large scale collision.

Dubbed Exercise Can Opener, the session was carried out at the Firstpoint Business Park on the outskirts of Doncaster.
