Sessions held for Dementia Week

Dementia Awareness Week runs until Saturday and the free session, which is open to anyone of any age, will be held in the Gallery at Riverside House on Thursday, from 10am to 11am.

Coun David Roche, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “Most people will know someone who is either living with or caring for a person with dementia. This awareness week is an ideal opportunity to improve understanding of dementia across the borough and highlight the small steps we can all do to help people who are affected by it.

“The Council is committed to working towards becoming dementia friendly and we are proud to have recently become a member of Rotherham Dementia Action Alliance. We’re also encouraging other organisations to join the Alliance.”

The initiative was launched with the aim of recruiting one million Dementia Friends by 2015 and, in Rotherham, 4,699 people have already become a Dementia Friend as of March this year, including over 200 council staff.
