Sheffield posties to go on strike this weekend

People living in parts of Sheffield may not get their post delivered on Saturday as workers gare planning a strike.

Postal workers from Sheffield South Delivery Office in postcode areas S7 and S8 will take take industrial action on June 18.

The Communication Workers Union, who represent Royal Mail employees, confirmed that the strike is taking place because of a ‘misapplication of the disciplinary code.”

A spokesman said: “This applies to a former colleague and people are frightened that it could happen to them.”

Areas affected will be parts of Netheredge, Batemoor, Beauchief, Greenhill, Jordanthorpe, Lowedges, Meersbrook, Norton, Norton Lees, Woodseats and Heeley,

An anonymous post on website Sheffield Forum said: “Sheffield South, who deliver to S7 and 8 will be on strike next sat in support of a member of staff that has just been sacked.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Royal Mail is still hopeful of finding a resolution with our union and our people on this local issue at Sheffield South delivery office to ensure that customers do not face any disruption.

“Our customers also expect Royal Mail to do everything in its power to protect the mail we are entrusted to deliver. Following a full investigation, Royal Mail considered there to be reasonable grounds to suspect wrongdoing and Mr Warburton was dismissed.

“Royal Mail has robust contingency plans in place to deal with any strike action. Any action or threat of action is damaging to our business.”
