Sheffield Tigers a match for any Premier League side, says Simon Stead
Skipper Simon Stead insists his Sheffield side are a match for anybody in the Premier League.
The Owlerton side have enjoyed back-to-back last- gasp home wins over high flying Somerset and Edinburgh and will be looking to make it three against Scunthorpe tomorrow.
Stead is expecting another stern test and has called on his team-mates to find consistency with the business end of the season fast approaching.
Said Stead: “Last heat deciders are never ideal and we’d like to put a meeting to bed much earlier so that we can go into heat 15 and race without any pressure on us.
“We’ve had our fair share of bad luck, but we know what we can do if we all click together.
“We’ve shown in our last two home meetings that we’re a match for anyone in this league by beating two of the top teams in the division.
“Ultimately, the top five, myself included, need to find consistency and the reserves need to turn things around.
“You have to stick at it and work your way through everything to do everything you can to get things back on track.
“I seem to have spent most of my year swapping and changing engines. There have been a fair few times throughout the season I haven’t felt quite on it.
“We’re all feeling the pressure but we’ve just got to battle as a team.
“No matter where Scunthorpe are in the table, they always turn up at Sheffield and ride out of their skins.
“It won’t be easy at all so we need a good all-round team performance and hopefully we can start demonstrating our true potential once again.”
Sheffield will be staging their collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund, raising money for injured and disabled riders, at tomorrow’s meeting.
