The Sheffield United midfielder met with representatives acting on behalf of Uwe Rosler’s side last night after being told he is surplus to requirement at Bramall Lane.

Woolford, who trained with Chris Wilder’s first team squad this morning, has not made an appearance since the 48-year-old’s appointment as manager in May.

“Martyn has been talking to them so he’s got a decision to make there,” Wilder said. “We’ve made it perfectly clear that he’s available and is free to move on. No hard feelings. That’s just the way it is. So we’ll see what happens.”

Wilder’s predecessor Nigel Adkins recruited Woolford from Millwall last summer. United face his former club at The Den this weekend as they look to bounce back from a 3-0 home defeat by Southend on Tuesday evening. Wilder hopes to unveil a new goalkeeper before the match - claims that Derby County’s Lee Grant has agreed a move and undergone a medical are untrue - after admitting he wants to provide George Long with “some experienced competition.”

“We are still working extremely hard,” Wilder added. “Yesterday was a day which started early and finished late.”

Although Wilder criticised United’s defensive display against Southend - “We gifted the opposition three goals inside 15 minutes” - he again argued some poor decision-making by the match officials had contributed to their demise.

“I said afterwards that I thought we were on the wrong end of some poor decisions on the night,” Wilder told the media earlier today. “And no matter how you dress it up, that does alter a game. Equally there were things we did during the build-up to those goals that were poor.”
