Six more areas 'dried off' for drinkers

ANOTHER six areas of Don-caster have been declared "dry" in the battle to stop nuisance street drinking.

Designated Public Place Orders are now in place to cover Armthorpe, Balby, Hexthorpe, Barnby Dun, Bentley, Edenthorpe, Kirk Sandall, Rossington and Stainforth. Signs have now gone up on lampposts to remind residents that they are in a DPPO area and the orders are enforceable by the Safer Neighbour-hood Teams.

DPPOs provide police with the power to request a person to stop drinking alcohol in the specified place if they are causing a nuisance. If they refuse, officers can confiscate their alcoholic drinks, fine them or even arrest them.

Mayor Martin Winter, chairman of the Safer Doncaster Partnership, said: “The approval of six new DPPOs is great news for Doncaster residents and demonstrates that we are serious about tackling the problems of alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.

“Our two existing DPPOs in Mexborough and the town centre have already led to a reduction in anti-social behaviour in these areas which is why we were keen to introduce the orders in other areas.”
