Station Road, Chapeltown: Crash on busy Sheffield road leads to road closure and building heavy traffic

A section of a busy Sheffield road is blocked this evening, following a road traffic collision.

The collision took place on Station Road, Chapeltown earlier today (Wednesday, April 19).

Station Road is currently closed in both directions, between Cart Road and Coppice Rise.

The collision has been described as ‘serious’ by South Yorkshire Police (SYP).

A spokesperson said: “Emergency services are on scene on Station Road, Chapeltown following a serious collision between a car and a pedestrian. The road is currently closed. We ask that people avoid the area where possible.

Bus services in the area are also being diverted.

Heavy traffic is building in the area, with Burncross Road; Cowley Lane and Ecclesfield Road among the worst-hit roads.

Posting on Twitter, a spokesperson for Stagecoach Yorkshire said of the routes being used as a result of the diversions: “Service 2 is being diverted in both directions. Route being followed is via Lound Side heading toward High Green, using the A61 heading toward Tankersley and Hoyland down Sheffield Road with the route being resumed at Broadcarr Road.”

Further information on the circumstances of, or the number of vehicles involved in, the collision is not yet known.
