Swapping four wheels for two to raise charity cash

A SHEFFIELD Children's Hospital governor is gearing up for his very own big-hearted cycle challenge - the Tour de South Yorkshire!

Richard Newton aged 31, from Stannington and colleague Jay Bundell, 28, from Wakefield, will pedal around the region in homage to the Tour de France.

But instead of taking in the French countryside and the gruelling demands of the Pyrenees, their 40 mile route takes in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham before returning to Sheffield.

Richard and Jay, who both work at Pentagon Toyota, are raising cash for the hospital’s Bear Two appeal.

The appeal aims to raise 120,000 for a paediatric intensive care ambulance.

Richard said: "The aim is to put ourselves through the wringer a bit.

"I want to show how much the Children's Hospital means to me and how proud I am to be a governor. As a Sheffielder it holds a special place in my heart and I urge others to support the charity in any way they can.

“We hope people will give generously and help us reach our 1,000 target."

David Vernon-Edwards, Children's Charity director, said: "It's a great statement by Richard and wonderfully demonstrates his hands-on approach to fundraising for the charity."
