Teams pressing ahead to help raise retirement village funds

FROM fashion to engineering - companies are eager to test their knowledge in the Great Big All Sheffield Quiz.

Quizzing the heart and ‘sole’ of Sheffield is Unze Shoes by Shalimar - the first local retail outlet to enter a team in the contest.

The shop, on Chapel Walk, is a franchise of a large group of family businesses, and manager Razia Hussain is one of the team with her married daughter Shanza Shzad, a planning officer with Sheffield Council, and two of Shanza’s colleagues, Maria Duffey and Cathy Parsons.

Razia, a former lecturer in art and design and cookery at Norton College and Chesterfield College, said: “My daughter is running the team but I am hoping, after living in the city for more than 30 years, I’ll be able to answer most of the questions.”

An active local charity supporter, Razia comes from a family who immigrated from India and have businesses in several parts of the UK.

Sheffield based Engineering Employers Federation is sponsoring a quiz night for engineering, manufacturing and technology companies.

Operations Director Marion Heron said: “The quiz is a fantastic team event which we are very much looking forward to taking part in. By doing so we hope to encourage more businesses to get involved and support this exciting event.”

JCI Sheffield - formerly the Junior Chamber of Commerce - is holding its own pre-quiz warm up to find the four members who will make up their team for the Professional Services quiz night, where they will be competing against law firms and accountants across the city.

President Andrew Baxter said: "The quiz is a great event for Sheffield and its JCI members as it gives us the opportunity to give something back to our community while learning more about the city. We also have a great history within Sheffield as it is our Chamber’s 80th year. In fact ours is the oldest chamber in the UK.”

Yorkshire’s largest architecture practice, Bond Bryan, will sponsor the Property, Development and Construction heat of the quiz.

Co-founder Jon Bond said: “The practice was born and bred in Sheffield, though our staff includes many people from all around the world who have come to the city because it’s such a great place to live and work. It’s a pleasure to sponsor an event such as this and to support ExtraCare. Now all we have to do is swot up!”
