Teen jobless total shock

CALLS have been made for Gordon Brown to apologise after it emerged Sheffield has one of the highest number of teenagers not in education or employment.

The Tories accused the Government of making “false claims” about almost wiping out youth unemployment.

They urged Mr Brown to apologise because his new Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain told MPs last month “youth unemployment has been all but eradicated”.

Recent figures show 1,680 Sheffield teens aged 16 to 18 were not in school, attending a training course or in a job – the 13th highest total in the country.
