South Yorkshire has 171 GP services, which are active under the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
134 of those are NHS GP practices, 93 per cent of which are rated 'good' overall.
However, seven per cent have ratings outside of this range, including the 11 NHS GP practices below which have received 'outstanding' and 'requires improvement' ratings in their latest inspections.
The NHS walk-in centre on Broad Lane, which last month received an 'inadequate' rating, the only category below 'requires improvement', is not considered a GP practice and is not included in the list.
To reach an overall rating, inspectors consider whether the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, which are each rated individually.
'Good' and 'outstanding' ratings are reviewed yearly by the CQC, who decide on the basis of any new evidence whether the service needs inspecting. As a result, some of the best practices have not been re-inspected in the last five years.
The CQC is the public body responsible for regulating and inspecting health and social care providers.
1. Shakespeare Road PMS
The practice on Shakespeare Road, Rotherham, has an overall 'requires improvement' rating. Safety, effectiveness and leadership all require improvement, but it is rated 'good' for being caring and responsive, according to the most recent report, published in June 2022.
2. Crown Street Surgery
The practice in Mexborough, Doncaster, is rated as 'requires improvement' overall. The latest inspection report, published in July 2022, found that safety, effectiveness, and leadership all require improvement. Care and responsiveness are both rated as good.
3. Woodland Drive Medical Centre
The practice, in Barnsley, has been rated 'requires improvement' overall. Safety, effectiveness and leadership all require improvement, but for being caring and responsive, the service is rated 'good', according to the most recent inspection in May 2022.
4. Swallownest Health Centre
The practice on Worksop Road, Sheffield, is rated as 'requires improvement' overall. It has the same rating in all five categories of being safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. The CQC are carrying out a review of quality at the centre.
