Motorists travelling on the M1 in South Yorkshire this evening are experiencing extensive delays, after a crash led to lane closures and four miles of congestion.

Two of the three lanes are currently close on the M1 southbound between J37 and J36 Barnsley.

A National Highways spokesperson said on Twitter: “There is about 4 miles of congestion on approach which is adding around half an hour to normal journey times.”

South Yorkshire Police has been asked to provide more information on the collision.
