M1 Traffic: Pictures shows 10 mile queues with delays of up to two hours on South Yorkshire motorway

A multiple car collision has led to a 10-mile long queue on the M1 in South Yorkshire.

The RAC is reporting delays of up to 120 minutes and increasing on the M1 Southbound following the crash between J29 near Chesterfield and J28 near Mansfield.

It has led to three lanes closing near the scene as emergency services deal with the incident.

But motorway cameras show how traffic is now at a standstill for up to 10 miles leading up to the crash on the M1.

An average speed of 5mph has been reported from the site of the crash near Holmewood to as far back as Barlborough.

It is expected to cause havoc for commuters in South Yorkshire this morning ahead of the morning rush.

Derbyshire Police has been contacted for a comment on whether anyone has been injured and how long it will take to clear the incident.

The images below show the extent of delays at 8.15am on October 6.

Update: The incident was cleared as of 9.15am and traffic is now moving well again.

It is understood no one was seriously hurt in the incident.

Highways England has been contacted for a comment.
