Sheffield was ninth among the UK’s 10 most populous cities for collisions, the data showed.

The A621 road - a major route connecting the centre of Sheffield to city suburbs via Abbeydale Road – was highlighted as a particularly accident-prone spot, notably in the vicinity of St Mary’s roundabout which connects Bramall Lane to St Mary’s Gate and St Mary’s Road.

Fifty-two accidents have occurred in this area over the last decade.

London was the worst city for accidents, with 32, 164 crashes.
