Sheffield Supertram evening services halted due to coronavirus pandemic

Trams in Sheffield will stop running at 8pm each evening due to staff shortages caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing the temporary change this weekend, Stagecoach Supertram said services on all routes would end at around 8pm each day.

It said that routes would run to their normal timetables until that point each day, with frequencies unchanged.

Responding to questions on Twitter, the operator said: “Because of the impact of COVID-19 we have fewer staff then we need to operate all services. Therefore we have unfortunately had to make these temporary changes.

"We do appreciate the inconvenience these will cause but this situation is out of our control.”

It added: “This is as a result of reduced staff, mainly due to the need to isolate.”

The reduced service came into effect yesterday, Saturday, November 7, and remains in place today, Sunday, November 8, with no word on when a normal service is set to resume.
