Sheffield trams: Trams suspended along West Street this morning, buses diverted and traffic delays

The service has not been able to operate between Cathedral and Shalesmoor, accoding to officials, who tweeted about the problem this morning, and the problems is now expected to keep that section of the line out of action for the rest of the day

They said early this morning: “Apologies but due to a broken down tram Blue and Yellow route trams are unable to operate between Cathedral and Shalesmoor. Trams operating Shalesmoor to Middlewood/Malin Bridge and Cathedral to Halfway and Meadowhall. Tickets accepted on First buses.”

They have now added: “Due to the incident on West Street, the tramway is likely to remain closed between Cathedral and Shalesmoor for the rest of today. We apologise for any inconvenience to customers affected by the disruption. Tram tickets are being accepted on buses between City and Shalesmoor.”

The problems have also affected bus services in the area, and police have warned that it will mean disruption to traffic, as well as public transport.

Buses are being diverted. First said the 51, 52a, 95, 95a and 120 would be diverting because it was blocking Glossop Road, and apolgised to customers.

South Yorkshire Police added: “Please be aware that there is a tram stuck on West Street in #Sheffield city centre, due to a mechanical failure. It is expected to cause some disruption to services and traffic locally for some time. Please plan your journeys accordingly.”
