TV spotlight shines on derby Cup clash

IT may only be one week into the new season but for the non-League teams it is the start of the long road that leads to Wembley as the FA Cup gets underway with the extra-preliminary round.

And for one team in particularly, the FA Cup is that little bit extra special as Dinnington Town embark on their first ever adventure into the competition in what is the start of their Centenary season when they take on neighbours Maltby Main iat Laughton Road this evening, in a tie that is the featured game of the round.

Sky Sports along with the FA Cup itself will be at the ground and a delighted Town secretary Chris Dearns commented: “We hope that this game puts both clubs in the spotlight to show you don’t have to pay a fortune to see a good standard of football”.

Also playing this evening are AFC Emley who take on North West Counties Division Two side Darwen at home. It is their first venture into the competition as AFC Emley and comes 10 years after the original Emley side under manager by Ronnie Glavin made it through to the third round and a tie at West Ham where they lost 2-1.

Darren Bland will be looking for his first win as Hallam manager when they travel to Nelson in a tie switched from Sandygate Road due to cricket.
