VIDEO: Sheffield Wednesday chief Carlos Carvalhal is determined to put one over on rival boss Steve Bruce

Carvalhal will be searching for his first victory over Bruce at the fourth attempt when his Wednesday side go to Aston Villa tomorrow.

Since taking over from Roberto Di Matteo last October, Bruce has led Villa up to 15th.

“I appreciate Steve,” Carvalhal told The Star. “I met him last season in the games that we played against him.

“Steve is a very nice guy and I look forward to talking to him.

“After our game, I will wish him all the best and I hope Villa win all of their games!”

Wednesday played Bruce’s Hull City side three times last season. The two Championship meetings finished all square but the Tigers edged the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley after a spectacular strike by Mo Diame.

On renewing his acquaintances with Bruce, Carvalhal said: “It is not personal. Of course, it is the teams that will play.

“We will play against Aston Villa and we must be focused on what we must do. We understand it will be a tough game for both teams.”

In recent weeks, Villa’s performances and results have improved. The Midlands club won three on the spin before losing to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.

“Playing at Villa Park is a big motivation for the players and managers and we know all the time that Villa are a tough team,” said Carvalhal, who could be without midfielders Sam Hutchinson and Almen Abdi (both knee) and Callum McManaman (groin).

“They are a massive club that are not in a good position at the moment but we know the value is there.”
