Walking group put their best feet forward to boost funds

MEMBERS of a special walking group took a 15-mile jaunt around Barnsley to boost funds for flood victims.

The group, from Compass House, visited Barnsley Town Hall to present Mayor Coun Len Picken with 433.70, collected from family and friends who supported their walk through donations and sponsorship.

The money will go to the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Fund.

Compass House on Castlereagh Street is a day service for adults with learning disabilities, managed by Barnsley Council’s Adult Social Services directorate.

Coun Picken said: “I know the members of the walking group through my regular visits to Compass House – although every time I go there they are out walking!

“But I know that at the drop of a hat they will do something for charity and they have done a marvellous job in raising funds for flood victims. I hope other Barnsley people will follow their example and I am sure the recipients will be very thankful.”
