Will Sheffield see a July heatwave? Met Office issues long range weather forecast

June saw some scorching days with revellers sunbathing in parts of the city – and forecasters say there is a chance of hot weather later in July.

But they are also predicting changeable weather for the month.

Forecasters are predicting the first week to be dry, but they also expect cloud, with temperatures not getting up beyond 23C, with the possibilty of thunder showers on Saturday July 3.

And later in the month, they are predicting unsettled weather, although they say there could be some very warm days.

The Met Office said: “In general settled conditions are likely, with a few brief more unsettled spells possible. Some northwestern areas will likely see brief spells rain and cloudy conditions at times, as well as a continued risk for periods of heavy rain or thunderstorms especially across the south. Above-average temperatures continue to be well signalled, with the chance of some very warm or hot days to come.

The BBC’s forecasters predict a cooler pattern to be interrupted by warm, dry spells in the middle of the month, with high pressure over the Atlantic.

They added there was a 30 per cent chnge of high pressure building strongly into Europe, which would lead to warmer weather along with an ‘elevated risk of heat waves’.

They expected ‘a changeable weather pattern to continue into July’. saying warmer, sunnier days were expected to primarily be brief spells early in the month. These may become a bit more persistent by mid-July, particularly across England, they said.
