Wellbeing sessions for city students

A new after-school programme is encouraging young teenagers in Penistone to become more active.

Club Activ, designed and delivered by wellbeing organisation Team Activ, is a year-long collaboration with Penistone Grammar School, providing fun and engaging activities for high school students.

The sessions, which run every school day between 3pm and 5pm, are intended to enable students to become ‘fit for life’ by focusing on essential life skills, such as communication and relationship building, whilst developing young people’s confidence, teamwork and self image.

Founder of Team Activ, Darren Padgett said: “We see this programme as essential to introduce our kids to as many exciting and varied activities in a world of short attention spans, distractions & gadgets.

“We put the programme together as a joint exercise in ensuring that there will be something for everyone throughout the timetable of adventures.”

Club Activ sessions were initially launched last November and include a daily after-school programme with a wide range of activities including survival skills, archery, yoga & mindfulness, cooking & nutrition and social media reporting. The programme is intended to develop throughout the year, including evening and weekend sessions. Students at Penistone Grammar have taken an integral role in planning the sessions with their own organising committee and management team.

One Y7 student said: “It’s good to have a great mix of different things we can do and feel that we’re all learning something new with our friends.”
