Why was car park closed?

Walking to Hillsborough Park I noticed many cars parked irresponsibly on corners at crossroads and also on the clearway on the sideroads next to the tram tracks.

In the park two events were going on, an organised race around the park and a children”s cross country race at the Arena.

I then noticed that the official car park was totally empty and the gates closed and on leaving the park a parking warden’s car was there.

I am all for fining the, “could not care less” parkers, but to have the car park closed when they know organised events are going on makes you wonder if that was the intention, to collect extra cash.
