"We believe a woman, aged 25 had fallen backwards off a wall from around 20ft last night," a South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesman said.
"We considered calling a specialist rescue team due to the difficultly of reaching the woman, but we managed to gain access to the river through the pub cellar door and onto the river bank.
"We had to then remove a lot of vegetation and get round thick trees to gain access to the woman - we had to walk around 100 metres to get to her."
Fire crews then had to pull the injured woman on a specialist rescue board back through the vegetation and through the busy pub where paramedics took over.
