Butler set to DIRECT operations

DAVID Butler is set to fly the Eagles' nest to become the Community Programme Manager for the Doncaster Knights' charity, DIRECT.

The 27-year-old from Sheffield has spent the last four years as community marketing manager for the Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club where his role was to find funding for grassroots development work, mostly in Sheffield schools and the youth community.

That role evolved to take on wider commercial responsibility and involvement in many aspects of behind-the-scenes club activity.

He comes to Doncaster for the greater challenge that the role offers.

He said: “There is a lot going on in Doncaster these days, at the club and around the area.

“The Knights are a very progressive operation and I am looking forward to moving our community work forward.

“Although my previous employment was in rugby league, rugby is rugby at the youth levels at which we are working. The key thing is to get kids active and enjoying sport and seeing that their lifestyles are improved because of that and good nutrition.”

“It is not just Doncaster that we plan to cover. Further east towards Hull and south towards Retford are obvious target areas, and perhaps parts of West Yorkshire in time. But our priority is Doncaster first and branching out later.”

Butler will take up his post full time on October 1.
