Aussie Aaron called up for Iraq match

CHESTERFIELD captain Aaron Downes has been called up for Iraq duty - but it's only on the football field.

The central defender is named in the Australian Under 23 squad for Olympic qualifying games against Iraq next Wednesday in Qatar and then in Australia against Lebanon and North Korea in September.

It means he misses four Spireites’ matches, three of them in the league and the JPT game at home to Hartlepool on Tuesday, September 4.

Spireites striker Jamie Ward looks certain to miss out on international duty next week after injuring a hamstring at Bramall Lane last night. He had been called up by Northern Ireland for the U21 international against Finland next Tuesday.
