Director hunt still ongoing

DONCASTER Knights Rugby Union Club are still looking for a new director of rugby to succeed Clive Griffiths, who left to join Worcester at the end of last season, with the start of the National League One campaign just over a month away.

"We have interviewed a number of excellent applicants but, for various reasons beyond our control, none resulted in a successful outcome," said club spokesman Alan MacGregor yesterday.

"We would ask everyone to be patient and accept that this matter has the highest possible priority. Pre-season training continues apace with Justin Bishop, assisted by Geoff Evans, our fitness and conditioning coach, and a number of our senior players, taking the lead.

"We will be using guest invitation coaches in the interim one of whom will be former head coach Kingsley Jones.

"Kingsley, now at Sale Sharks, will take charge of tonight's session and tomorrow morning's session.

"The spirit within the squad is outstanding and the measurable fitness levels are very, very high."

Two pre-season fixtures have been arranged away to Premiership opposition. The Castle Park side will visit Newcastle Falcons on Sunday, August 19 and will travel over to Headingley the following Sunday to take on Leeds Tykes.

The club kick-off their league campaign on September 1st at Coventry and entertain the Cornish All Blacks the following weekend.
