HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE

NO Doncaster Rovers player is looking forward to tomorrow's pre-season friendly against Manchester United at the Keepmoat Stadium more than midfielder Mark Wilson.

Not only did the personable Wilson support the Old Trafford club as a youngster, he also realised a boyhood dream when signing for the Premiership giants as a 16-year-old.

"I spent the happiest six years of my life at Manchester United," recalled Wilson this week.

"There are still quite a few of the players who were at the club during my time who are still there including Paul Scholes and Wes Brown, who I still speak to on a fairly regular basis."

"Manchester United are a great club and it will be great for the Doncaster fans to see their big names in the flesh at the keepmoat Stadium.

"It will also be a great experience for the lads - particularly the younger ones - to play against United's household names in front of a capacity crowd.

"I just hope that we don't end up chasing the ball all night and that we get the chance to show what we can do.

"I am certainly looking forward to the game because it is always special to play against Manchester United, even in a friendly.

"I've played against them on several occasions since I left and have always done well against them and hopefully that will be the case tomorrow.

"With it being our final pre-season friendly all the lads will be out to impress the manager ahead of the opening league game against Millwall.

"The manager has made some good signings during the summer and the squad looks very strong and there is going to be a lot of competition for places throughout the team.

United, who had 50m worth of summer signings watching the game from the stands, played an unchanged side throughout the game.

Portuguese winger Nani, who whetted a few appetites with a couple of impressive goals during the Far East tour, missed the game after picking up an ankle injury in training on Monday. but could play some part tomorrow.

England international Owen Hargreaves began training on Monday after suffering with tendonitis in his knee, a problem which forced him out of the entire pre-season tour. He is hoping to return to action this weekend.

Brazilian starlet Anderson was another tour absentee after playing for his country in the Copa America and only reporting back for training on Monday. He is another in the reckoning for a run-out against either Rovers or Peterborough on Saturday.
