The Shrimpers, who had only taken one point from nine previous home games, gave the Millers a leg up with Rob Kiernan's first-half own goal.

But quickfire goals from Jason Demtriou and Sam Mantom put Sol Campbell's side on course for a first home win of the campaign, only for Freddie Ladapo to spare Millers blushes.

Kiernan put through his own net from Jake Hastie's corner and it looked to set Paul Warne's men on their way to victory.

But two goals in three second-half minutes stunned the visitors as Demetriou converted from the spot following a handball by Chiedozie Ogbene and then Mantom finished coolly when through on goal.

The Millers saved a point on the hour when Ladapo fired home from close range, and he could have won it at the death but he was denied by home goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.
