Gosney steals the show on 18th birthday

DONCASTER Town stormed to a nine-wicket victory in the Doncaster and District Infirmary Evening League Senior Cup final against EdenGrove at Bullcroft.

Grove made a steady start after being put in and with Russ Donald (20) and Kameron Ajimal (16) helping them to 72-5 it looked as though they would reach a reasonble total, but a brilliant running catch by Nick Cowan heralded the start of a dramatic collapse and the Hexthorpe side crashed to 81 all out.

Alex Gosney (5-14) did the damage with Cowan taking 2-19 and Andrew Chadwick grabbing 2-17.

The Town batsmen went after the runs with some purpose with openers Orin Roestorf (22) and Graeme Attenborough (24 not out) giving them a good start, but it was man-of-the-match Gosney who stole the show on his 18th birthday with an unbeaten 36.

Former league chairman Ken Unwin presented the trophies.

Frickley Colliery booked their place in the final of the Supplementary Cup when beating Wadworth by 78 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss, Frickley made 163-6. Wadworth, for whom Danny Powell (28) top-scored, were 75-9 in reply.

Doncaster Town extended their lead at the top of Division One when beating second-placed Barnby Dun by three wickets.
