Hallam bid to become best of neighbours

HALLAM entertain Sheffield neighbours tomorrow night determined to show they are not the city's poor relations.

Sheffield have monopolised almost all the region's non-League attention recently.

As the oldest club in the world, the club has friends in high FIFA places and its staff have mingled with world soccer's top brass.

On top of that, the present day Sheffield Club left Hallam behind in their wake last season, achieving promotion from Northern Counties East to Unibond South.

Hallam, despite the fact they have the oldest ground in the world, have failed to get anything like the same attention.

Ahead of tomorrow's friendly at Sandygate, their secretary, Mark Radford, said: "There is no envy about Sheffield Club, not really. Sheffield's profile jumped immeasurably when Richard Tims started promoting them.

"We just don't have anybody with the time to do that, that's all. They have done well but, as a team, we did draw with them, away, last year and I'm sure we'll give them a game tomorrow (7.30pm)."

If Hallam were to exceed their expectations in their league, they would face problems in terms of possible promotion to the Unibond.

Radford said: "Our place is effectively a cricket ground until September and we don't get to play at home, normally, until then. I don't think Unibond would accept that. But, if we did get to the top of the league it would be something worth investigating."
