Kim deal

BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey wants new signing Kim Christensen in his squad for Colchester on Saturday but is waiting for international clearance from the FA.

The striker who has played in Denmark, Germany and Holland became Barnsley's 11th summer signing yesterday when he joined from Odense BK for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract. He will compete with Istvan Ferenczi, Miguel Mostto and Kayode Odejayi.

Davey said: "We need four strikers, Kim is a striker with a bit of presence. He's a bit like Istvan (Ferenczi), he can play as a target man, who works hard for the team.

"I'm hoping that we get clearance for him in time for Saturday."

Barnsley waited six days for the FA to grant international clearance for German goalkeeper Heinz Muller.

Christensen, aged 27, is a former Danish under 21 international forward.

He has played in Germany with Hamburg and for FC Twente in Holland and has also had a spell with Odense BK's rivals Brondby.

Christensen began his career at Lyngby, scoring 18 goals in 70 matches. He moved to Germany in 2001 and made 12 appearances for Hamburger SV, scoring once. In 2003 he joined FC Twente. In 53 games he scored 10.

He had a season at Brondby in 2005 before signing for Odense at the start of last season. He netted five times in 26.

Barnsley trio Paul Reid, Lewin Nyatanga and Andy Johnson all needed stitches after Tuesday's 2-1 Carling Cup win over Darlington.

All three will be fit for Saturday's Championship game at Colchester.
