Lowry wins £50 goal bet with grandad

CHESTERFIELD'S Jamie Lowry is quids in after scoring his first ever senior goal during the 3-2 win at Peterborough.

The Cornwall-born youngster banked 50 from his grandad after striking a bet before the trip to London Road.

Lowry, who benefited from manager Lee Richardson’s decision to revert to a 4-4-2 formation against Posh, revealed there were certain stipulations:

“I’m always having little bets with him about football,” he said.

“He’s promised me the money but only if I was on the pitch for 90 minutes, I scored and Chesterfield won.

“Tough taskmaster!”

Lowry, who missed much of last season with glandular fever after making his first team debut in the memorable televised Carling Cup victory over West Ham, was delighted with his goal but was just happy to be involved in his first start of the season. “I was really happy when the Gaffer told me that I was starting so I just wanted to make the most of my chance. I’m really pleased to be back playing again.”

The result gave a timely boost in the dressing-room according to Lowry.

“Team morale’s just shot up now after the win after everyone had been tipping Peterborough for promotion, so we hope people will sit up and take notice of us now,” he added.
