Mostto will come good

BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey will wait patiently for big summer signing Miguel Mostto to hit the goal trail.

The Peruvian, who cost in the region of 400,000, broke his Barnsley duck with a goal for the reserves on Wednesday but found himself on the bench for the last Championship game at West Brom.

"It was good for him to get on the scoresheet and finish a good move with a header," Davey explained.

"We've 14 new signings so obviously they can't all be in the starting 11. Someone is always going to be disappointed.

"We've certainly not seen the best of Miguel.

"He is a natural goalscorer who has scored goals at international level.

"Sometimes with players like Miguel you have to wait six months to see the best of them."

Davey spoke with Nolberto Solano, the Peruvian midfielder who played for Newcastle against Barnsley in the Carling Cup before agreeing a move to West Ham last Friday.

"Solano told me it took him six months to settle into the pace of the game over here," Davey confirmed.

"Miguel has not scored yet but neither has Kim (Christensen) or Kayode (Odejayi). I'm not unduly bothered as long as we're scoring goals as team.

Barnsley have a blank weekend and the players have tomorrow off.

"It's a welcome break, a chance for most of the players to re-charge their batteries," Davey said.

"We've already played six games inside three weeks."

, Rotherham United will give central defender Ian Sharps every chance to prove his fitness ahead of tomorrow's home game with Darlington (1pm kick-off).

Sharps injured a hamstring in Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Mansfield and Millers manager Mark Robins said he had been under treatment in a bid to play.

Robins is prepared to wait until tomorrow for a final decision.

Midfielder Peter Holmes also faces a late fitness check after missing Tuesday's game with a foot injury.
