New faces ordered to take a rest

Chesterfield's comfortable win in the traditional fixture at Matlock Town was done without any of Lee Richardson's summer signings participating.

The only new face was triallist Peter Leven, who got a complimentary review from the manager for his sound performance and decent goal.

Gregor Robertson, Steve Fletcher, Jack Lester and Jamie Winter had all played at Scunthorpe 48 hours earlier while Kevin Gray was missing due to a tight hamstring, as was striker Jamie Ward.

Goals have been in plentiful supply with Lester bagging two at Stocksbridge and another at Glandford Park, where Fletcher registered his first in Chesterfield colours, and Richardson knows it will be tough to accommodate his three main front men in the same starting line up.

"It's obviously something that's going to be difficult if you want to play 4-4-2," admits the boss.

"Jamie can play wide and Jack can play midfield but we all can see that their real ability is at the cutting edge of the team so unless you adapt your shape to accommodate one or two of those players, you know you've got to rotate them and maybe pick two from three at times and that's something we've got to look at.

"I expect them to be the main spearhead of the team and it's a question of making sure they're all fresh for as much of the season as possible and if that means we have to rotate, then that's what it means."
