Newcomers a big hit with bunch of fives

EDLINGTON Rangers celebrated their promotion to the Premier Division of the Doncaster Senior League with a 5-1 victory over visiting Bawtry Town in their opening game of the 2007-2008 campaign.

Chris Colley and John Tobin were on target for Rangers in the first half with Peter Dawson and John Tobin doubling their tally before substitute James Cheswick celebrated his return to the game after a long injury lay-off with a goal.

A hat-trick from Leon Tarry put Askern Welfare on the way to a 4-1 success at Thorne Town. Adam Wisdom also found the net for Welfare, with Lee Mason replying for Town.

Sutton Rovers, who completed their Division One programme last season without a victory, fell behind to an own goal when they travelled to Wickersley for their first match, but bounced back to win 5-1.

Mitchell Wain grabbed a hat-trick for Rovers with Michael Smith and Luke Chambers also getting in in the act.

Newcomers South Kirkby received a hot baptism at Moorland, who took no prisoners charging to a 7-0 success.

Pratt and Pursglove both bagged a brace for Moorland with Finn, Robinson and Harvey also netting.

Armthorpe MW registered a 6-2 victory at Hemsworth Alpha.

There was a brace of goals each by Daniel McNeil and Nathan Hall with Richard Blackwell and Anthony Bird also hitting the target. Steve Sidebottom twice reduced the arrears for Alpha.

An own goal put South Elmsall United Services on the road to a 3-1 victory over Ackworth United. Chris Chapman and Pete Morgan improved their tally with Jamie Boustead replying for Ackworth.

A first-half goal from Scott Hammond saw Kinsley Boys beat TPS 1-0.

Honours were shared by Upton Brookside and Hemsworth Tavern, who battlled out a 1-1 draw.

Chris Askham gave Tavern the lead, with Jamie MacDonald equalising after having two efforts disallowed for offside.
