Rooney left in bad Hart

Spireites striker Adam Rooney saw keeper Joe Hart make a trio of good saves to deny him glory for Republic of Ireland U-21s against England in a qualifying match for the 2009 UEFA Championships in Cork last night.

England though continued their 100 per cent record with a comfortable 3-0 win, all of the goals coming in a quickfire first quarter of the game.

Mark Noble scored the first two goals and James Milner notched the third for Stuart Pearce's young side.

Meanwhile Scottish midfielder Jamie Winter has returned to light training following what initially looked a serious injury at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Winter was stretchered off, drifting in and out of consciousness, strapped in a neck brace and was rushed to hospital but x-rays and tests showed no permanent damage.

Fellow midfielder Peter Leven's ankle injury has been responding well and has stepped up his training as has Steve Fletcher (thigh) as Lee Richardson's men prepare for Dagenham & Redbridge's first ever visit to Saltergate on Saturday.
