The striker enjoyed a weekend off after netting the winner in Friday night's 1-0 victory over West Ham, and joined injured Swans defender Joe Rodon in the away end at the Cardiff City Stadium as the two rivals drew 0-0.

The FA, though, have reminded McBurnie of his responsibilities and the striker, who joined United in a £20m move in the summer, revealed why he wanted to be at the derby.

"You know what I’m like. I get carried away,” McBurnie told The Athletic at the game.

“But I’m watching some of my mates playing footie on a big stage in a big game. I get excited by that. And I just love football.”

“I just think about how good the fans were with me ever since day one when I was here, and the way they took to me is something that me and my family will never forget.

And I’ve still got some of my best friends that play for the club, so whenever I can I like to get down to the big games.

“I think that’s probably my main regret from being at Swansea, that I never got to play in a South Wales derby.

“It’s a massive game, I went to the home game and now I’ve been in the away end here. It’s something that I would have loved to have taken part in when I was playing for Swansea. But maybe one day.”

McBurnie also denied reports that he bought 300 pints for Swans fans in the stadium.

“Not today," he laughed.

"At QPR (in August), I think I bought 100. I got as many as they would give me. But today, I’ve not been to the bar once. Honestly. I’m staying away, keeping my head down, keeping under the radar. You know me…”
