Sheffield United braced for coronavirus update as Arsenal coach tests positive

The Premier League are set to convene an emergency meeting after Arsenal, who visit Bramall Lane in the FA Cup quarter-finals next weekend, confirmed their head coach Mikel Arteta has contracted coronavirus.

Officials from the governing body will discuss the situation tomorrow morning, before making an announcement regarding “future fixtures” in the competition.

It raises the possibility that matches could either be played behind closed doors or postponed, which is United manager Chris Wilder’s preferred option, as part of its response to the growing health crisis.

“In light of Arsenal's announcement tonight confirming that their first team coach Mikel Arteta has tested positive for COVID-19, the Premier League will convene an emergency club meeting tomorrow morning regarding future fixtures,” a statement, published by the PL tonight, said. “The Premier League will make no further comment until after that meeting.”
