Sheffield United confirm when Bramall Lane hotel will reopen under new name

The hotel, which was built between the South Stand and Bramall Lane end in 2008, was previously operated by Copthorne before being reunified with the club after the high-profile High Court battle for control of the Blades.

The newly-named DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City is expected to welcome guests later in 2021 while leaf hospitality, a leading hotel management company, has won the management contract.

Yusuf Giansiracusa, United’s acting chairman, said: “This is another good day for the club and our fans. We are confident that the DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City will fast become the favourite place for Blades to congregate before and after matches.”

Abdullah Alghamdi, the chief executive of the United World group, added: “At the point that the assets, including the hotel, returned to the club, Prince Abdullah committed to upgrading the Club’s portfolio and this is a sign of that pledge.

“It has been a difficult time with the COVID-19 pandemic but we are delighted to partner with two established names in the industry and look forward to opening the doors of the hotel at Bramall Lane once more.”

The 155-room hotel will include a penthouse suite and United’s statement added that “the vision for the property is for it to become the leading upscale hotel in the city with a renowned, global hotel brand above the doors”.

Richard Farrar, the managing director of leaf, said: “This addition to our portfolio is particularly special for me, in many ways like a homecoming back to a city very close to my heart.

“The hotel actually overlooks the site where my grandparents used to run a small corner shop just across from Bramall Lane. You can actually see it from the hotel.

“It’s great to be back in Sheffield and I’m really proud of this win for our team and looking forward to working with the club to rebrand and reposition the hotel to its rightful league and at the heart of the local community.”
