Speaking on BBC Radio 5live last night, before Mourinho had been confirmed as the new Spurs coach, Harry Redknapp claimed that Sheffield United's manager would be a more deserving candidate for the job.

He contended: "He's (Wilder) fantastic, what he's done there has been amazing - but he won't get a look-in will he? They'll (Spurs) end up going for another big name who ain't as clever as him.

"At the end of the day, Chris Wilder could win league titles with the right team in the Premier League given the opportunity, but they don't get a chance - the British and English managers - to manage the top four teams."

He concluded: "They'll go foreign again for sure - they won't look at Eddie Howe or people like that."

Blades fans will no doubt be relieved that Spurs concluded their business in rapid fashion, ending any suggestion that their could be poached by the north London side.

Wilder will be very much focused on this weekend's clash against Manchester United, where his flourishing side will look to shine again at a sold-out Bramall Lane on Sunday evening.
