The Gabon international was dismissed following a VAR review of his challenge on Max Meyer during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, with Mikel Arteta later confirming he will not seek to overturn the decision on appeal.

“I think it was a harsh challenge,” the Arsenal manager said. “There is no intention to do it but maybe he mistimed it.”

Aubameyang had earlier fired Arsenal in front at Selhurst Park before Jordan Ayew levelled for the hosts.

Arteta, who was still a member of Manchester City’s coaching staff when his club were beaten at Bramall Lane earlier this season, is challenging them to cut out the lapses in concentration he believes are costing Arsenal dear.

“We switched off and that shouldn’t happen,” he said. “We can’t do that.”
