The victory over the basement boys puts Chris Wilder’s side in sixth place level on 43 points with Wolverhampton Wanderers in fifth, which could be the final Champions League berth if Manchester City’s two-year ban handed down by UEFA is upheld.

Here’s what United fans are saying on Twitter after witnessing their side edge ever closer to playing in Europe next season.

@1JonDavies1988 Goals take you round the block, clean sheets will take you round the world, or Europe in a few months #sufc #twitterblades

@Barnsleyblade59 The Pub Team are doing OK!! #twitterblades #sufc #SHUNOR

@becc_x3 I am absolutely in love with this team, no one in August was expecting us to do this well! We have shut down so many pundits that was saying the blades would go up and straight back down! #sufc #twitterblades

@wHOODeyCP I miss the Jack O'Connell song... Probably need to replace "promotion" with "in Europe".

@tyronej1984 Sharp, Fleck, Egan, and Henderson. Four of the greatest United players ever playing in the same team. This truly is a special time to be a Blade. #twitterblades #SUFC

@gparker1977 Makes me laugh how Arsenal winning makes the @SkySportsNews headlines yet no mention of United or Wolves closing the gap to fourth to just two points. They really do hate us getting amongst the so called big teams #SUFC #twitterblades #wwfc #Wolves

@SUFC_memories It’s March 2016 United have snatched a 2-2 draw away at Fleetwood. Fast forward four years, @billysharp10 nets the winner to fire the Blades into sixth in the @premierleague as their European charge mounts. Makes you realise just how far we’ve come. #sufc #twitterblades #UTB

@Berkshireblade Great result for our Champions League push, that. And our back up of Europa League qualification too. #sufc #twitterblades

@tyronej1984 All joking aside, European football next season is a real possibility. We have outstanding talent all over the pitch, and under Wilder this team will push right to the very end. #twitterblades #SUFC
